About the artist Lena Derning

Lena Derning is a colorful artist, born in Gothenburg, with blood from Bohuslän, the real West-coast of Sweden, since many generations back. Her paintings are bright with vivid colours. The motives often come from Nature. Some of the paintings are filled with fantasy and romance. Lena Derning´s art gives the viewer a vivid impression of hapiness and positive feelings. Maybe it´s her need of harmony when she paints, that reflects in the eye of the viewer. “Wedding in the wood” is the largest painting at the exhibition. It is about a romantic wedding with birches, a lake, a wedding-couple and their guests saluting in rosé-wine. The motive has a depth which goes far into the picture and the impression of summer, happyness and party is very powerful.

Lena Derning is an established artist who has painted with oilcolours since the age of 15. She has exhibited in Gothenburg, Stockholm, San Fransisco, New York and she has also tought painting.

Lena Derning moved to Stockholm in 1965 and lived at Lidingö island for 30 years and in France and the USA for some years.

Since 1995 Lena Derning both lives and works at Södermalm in Stockholm. She paints in her studio, which is directly connected with the show-room of Gallery Darling, which she owns and operates. Gallery Darling is a small gallery located in the heart of SOFO at Södermalm in Stockholm, one block west of Nytorget.
A gallery for gifted amateurs as well as established artists.

Lena radiates of joy for life, which comes from her inner glow and spreads to visitors and exhibitants at Gallery Darling.

“I was given a gift to take care of”, Lena says. “I love to paint and if I can make someone a little happier through my painting, if someone recognizes a summer-meadow, a bay of the sea, a red-painted fence from their childhood to dream away from reality a while, get in touch with their inner self, or just get a nice feeling - my painting is motivated - an extreme gift to be grateful for. To paint is an absolute must-do for me, to paint is to live...”.

Lena Derning´s paintings are exclusively painted in oil on canvas. They are colouristic with a touch of naivism when she paints people, She gets the complementary colours to harmonise with each other and has a nice balance between cold and warm colours.
